The numerous achievements recorded by the Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi based on the merits recorded so far, the outstanding performance and leadership qualities, has drawn the attention of the Emirates and people of Daura in Katsina State to confirm on him the Traditional title of Dan Amanar Daura, apparently The First in the History of the Emirate. Amana in Hausa land refers to Integrity, Truth and one that is Trusted.

Diobu, a Densely Populated Neighborhood in Port Harcourt is where the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi was Raised. Born in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State to the family of the late Elder Fidelis Amaechi and Mary Amaechi, He had His early Education at St Theresa’s Primary School from 1970 to 1976. He earned his West African Senior School Certificate in 1982 after attending Government Secondary School Okolobiri. Amaechi received a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) in English Studies and Literature from the University of Port Harcourt in 1987, where he was the President of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS).
Upon graduation, Amaechi went ahead to serve his Father Land by partaking in the National Youth Service Corps.
Being a Grassroot Politician since his University days as the President of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Amaechi was Secretary of the National Republican Convention in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State during the transition to the Third Nigerian Republic, Between 1992 and 1994. He was Special Assistant to the then Deputy Governor of Rivers State. Amaechi being a young man with Potential in Politics, In 1996, he was the Rivers State’s Secretary of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN) Caretaker Committee during the Transition Programme of General Sani Abacha.
Amaechi Contested and won a seat to become a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly to Represent his Constituency in 1999. He was subsequently elected as the Speaker of the House of Assembly. Amaechi was elected the Chairman of Nigeria’s Conference of Speakers of State Assemblies. In May 2003, he was re-elected as the Speaker. In 2003, when the Executive arm of Government moved to Hijack the legislative functions of the State House of Assembly as enshrined in the Constitution, he and his Colleagues took the matter to Supreme Court as a law abiding citizen.
As speaker, Amaechi used his Experience and Determination to increase the Harmonious Relationship between the Executive and Legislative arm of government in Rivers State.
In 2007, Amaechi Contested the Rivers state Governorship Primaries and won. His name was Substituted by the Party, an Action which he Challenged in Court, and eventually got to the Supreme Court which He won. He became Governor on October 26, 2007, after the Supreme Court ruled that he was the rightful Candidate of the PDP and winner of the April 2007 Governorship election in Rivers State.
His Administration was One that Rivers State People Cried when He left because Amaechi invested Massively in Infrastructure Development, Construction of Roads and Bridges, Sticking to the Vision of Connecting all parts of the State by Road. As the Governor of Rivers State, he was also Committed to Urban Renewal and Modernization of Transportation Services. His administration began Building a Monorail to Provide Mass Transportation within the city of Port Harcourt. Some power plant projects (Afam, Trans Amadi, Onne) were also built to Improve Power supply in the State.
Amaechi was amongst seven serving Governors who Formed the G-7 faction within the PDP. In November 2013, Amaechi alongside Five Members of the G-7 defected to the new Opposition Party the All Progressives Congress (APC) and became Director General of Muhammadu Buhari’s Presidential Campaign.
Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s Election in 2015, Amaechi was Appointed to his Cabinet as a Minister in the Federal Minister of Transportation. In July 2019, he was re-nominated for Ministerial Appointment by President Buhari. Amaechi was ask to take a bow and go during his screening by the Senate because of His track records as a Speaker, Governor, and Minister of Transportation.
As a Minister of Transportation, He made it possible for Nigeria to have a Safe, Efficient, Affordable and Seamless Multimodal Transport System in line with Global best practices.
Seeing the Challenges Faced on Nigerian Roads, the Honorable Minister bid to Ensure Safe, Secure, Reliable, Efficient, Affordable, Intermodal, and Environmentally Sustainable Road transport for all.
The Ministry embarked on Developing a National Road Transport Policy.
He Implemented the Regional Transport Protocols to Accelerate Nigeria benefiting from African Continental Free Trade Agreement and other detailed guides for the Road Transport Subsector among others.
On the rail sub-sector, the Minister noted that the Nigerian Railway Corporation was about 123 years old (1898-2021) and within this period has built 3,505km of narrow gauge Rail lines.
Other lines built were 186km network of Standard Gauge (SG) Rail lines linking Abuja to Rigasa in Kaduna State; 302km network of SG Rail lines from Itakpe, Kogi State, to Warri, Delta State.
And additional 185km double SG Rail lines from Lagos to Ibadan Rail lines with extension to Apapa Sea Port.
Under His watch, the Ministry has embarked on buildin other Standard Gauge Routes as follow –Ibadan to Kano; Kano to Kazaure – Daura – Kastsina– Jibiya to link Maradi in Niger Republic. Others are Port Harcourt – Aba – Enugu – Makurdi – Jos – Bauchi – Gombe – Maiduguri; starting with the Narrow – Gauge rehabilitation. Lagos-Ijebu-Ode –Benin –Yenegoa – PortHarcourt – Aba– Uyo – Calabar also on the pipe line.
Rotimi Chibuke Amaechi Achieved a lot in his career and on the process, He made River State habitable for international investors.
The Port Harcourt International Airport had been in an Unbearably Intolerable State such that many had Concluded that it was Irreparable, but Amaechi being a Visionary Leader Stormed on it and made it Perfectly fitte to meet International Standard.
Before Leaving office as the Executive Governor of Rivers State, He made sure that Onne Port is Blooming with life and Economic activities here and there. Trucks even Stretched their Parking up to around the Rivers Government House entrance gate waiting to be called upon to pick up Containers at the Port Harcourt Port.

Amaechi Pushed for the Construction of Bodo-Bonny Mega Road with Multiple Bridges which gathered Momentum in the State.
Among His Achievements, are the Construction of a 39-kilometre road, Cross Culverts and two mini-Bridges with a span of 23 metres each, as well as two Creek Bridges, Afa Creek Bridge of about 530 metres length and Nanabie Creek Bridge of about 640 metres length, the Construction of a Major River Bridge of about 750 metres length over the Opobo Channel.
Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has been able to Commit the Federal Government 100 per cent, to hasten the Ogoni Clean-up Exercise which is already a reality today. He hastens the approvals for Bonny and Warri Deep Sea projects, which will not only serve as a tug in the Heart of Onlookers in Rivers State, but the South-South Region Entirety.
